lyrics

These are the extended "deluxe" Lyrics with additional story narratives [ ]

There
the light there - through the trees!
but it can’t...
see!

There!
that light there - cross the way!
how can it be -

there!
the farm there - comes the light!
but it can’t...
can you -
see!

there!
that farm there - through the trees!
abandoned...
there!

[he’s been pacing in front of the bay windows in their bedroom since nightfall,
talking into the room over his shoulder in darkness,
pointing at the small orb of light
that’s been blinking on and off cross the way]

dear!
what lights there - calls to me!
every evening - since...

there! what lights there - cross the way?
remember - dear?

come to sleep

why do memories haunt me now?

in my arms, I’ll keep you
quiet your head

[the phone rings, and he jumps.
he quickly picks it up and listens,
looks into the dark bedroom, “how can this be?”]

let me out,
my dear - won’t you release yourself
from this role you’re playing?

let me out,
my dear - I’m your memory no longer
what you want to believe!

[ he throws the phone down onto the table ]

it was cool
late in September
on that night
I do remember
you
later that night

do you believe I tried -
did you think I manipulated
do you believe I lied -
did you think that I fabricated

holding hands
late in the evening
on that night
I was believing
you
until that night

[ he collapses into the chair by the table with the phone and the lamp
he holds his head in his hands and slowly, gently begins to rock himself ]

let me out, my dear-
won’t you release yourself
from this role you’re playing?

let me out, my dear-
I’m your memory no longer
what you need to believe!

[ the next thing he knows, he’s breaking his way through the copse of woods and stumbling down
into the underbrush field cross the way
he heads for the dark shapes of the abandoned farm

the light continues to call him, blinking on and off in a strange morse code
and coming from inside what he knows to be a dilapidated shed
the door is overgrown with decades of vines
he puts his ear to the door, and images from memory flash through his mind ]

sore -
dirt floor -
our breath in air -
we closed the door -
just like before -
or no?

[ removing the overgrowth of vines ]

there is hope, there is pain
but the answers remain
to be found
in the light cross the way

let me

there is hope, there is pain
but salvation remains
to be found
in the light cross the way

let me

there is hope, there is pain
but the truth it remains
to be found
in the light cross the way

let me

there is hope, there is pain
in the end we remain
to be found
in the light cross the way

[ he hears something approaching the door - rush to finish
a voice he has been hearing is getting louder, closer on the other side of door ]

let

me

[ he pulls-pushes open the door ]

OUT!

[ In the morning, he is found in his chair, eyes open, huge sacks under eyes lack of sleep, booze,
clearly a man in mourning, lost his wife of over 30 years, at peace now.
The police were called by disconnected number traced to abandoned farm across the way,
basement door opened, phone in basement off the hook…
"pranksters", they think.
A woman’s voice to check on him, doesn’t want him left there, forgotten]
